The Mbabaram Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC administers land on behalf of Bar Barrum People of Far North Queensland. Their ownership was recognized in four consent determinations lodged in 2001.
The determinations rose from eight separate applications for native title, the first of which was made in 1996. Bar Barrum People #1 was resolved in 2001 approximately four and a half years after it was lodged and is administered by the Bar-Barrum Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC. Of the remaining seven claims, four have been resolved and are now administered by the Mbabaram Aboriginal Corporation. Bar Barrum People #2, #3, #4 and #6 include approximately 1991.73 square kilometres of land and waters on the Atherton Tableland in and around the Walsh River and to the west of the Wild River. The consent determinations recognized the claimants’ exclusive native title rights over parts of the determination area, and non-exclusive rights over the remainder of the claim area.
