The Bunuba Dawangarri Aboriginal Corporation has been told by their insurance broker that they are “unlikely to be able to obtain public liability insurance over the Bunuba Reserves which are to be used for community blocks or Traditional Owner commercial opportunities”.

A Native Title holder has been asked to remove his dwelling from his Native Title land, which the local council said in a Notice to Remove was public land, a claim that the local Prescribed Body Corporate disputes. Patrick Green is Bunuba man from the Kimberly region of Western Australia, near the Martuwarra/Fitzroy River. He recently decided to move out of the town and get back onto Country, settling on a patch of land about five kilometres west of Fitzroy Crossing, with sea containers and small sheds as dwellings.

Western Australia's Government has confirmed the new name for the iconic King Leopold Ranges, with the name of the Belgian "tyrant" set to be permanently removed from the Kimberley landscape. It will now be known as the Wunaamin-Miliwundi Range.

The Federal Court has granted the Bunuba community native title rights over 6,500 square kilometres of land and water in the Fitzroy Valley.

The Bunuba people in the Kimberley have been recognised as the traditional owners and granted native title to more than 6,500 kilometres of land. The native title claim which has been in the Federal Court for 13 years was yesterday concluded with celebrations in Geieke Gorge, near Fitzroy Crossing.

A 13-year Federal Court battle ended today in the Kimberley as Justice Gilmour formally recognised the native title rights and interests of the Bunuba people over 6528sqkm of land and waters in the Fitzroy Valley in a special “on country” court session.

Bunuba People gain recognition of their native title rights over a significant area of land stretching from Fitzroy Crossing to the South East, the Leopold Range to the North East, the Oscar Range to the South West and the Napier Range to the North West.
