The Budina Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC holds land in trust for the Budina people in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The native title rights and interests of the Budina people were recognised in a consent determination in October 2017 (October 2017 determination).

The traditional country of the Budina people is approximately 150km east of Coral Bay, to the south-east of Exmouth. The claim area covers approximately 4096 square kilometres of land. The claim area includes the majority of Towera and Lyndon stations, parts of Emu Creek and Uaroo stations, and very small portions of Middalya, Mangaroon and Maroonah stations. It is bisected northwest to southeast by the Yannarie River, and includes a portion of the Lyndon River in the south.

On 26 February 2021, Banks-Smith J recognised the Budina peoples’ native title rights and interests in an area west of the area subject to the October 2017 determination. The area subject to the February 2021 determination was predominately comprised of pastoral stations, including Winning, Mia Mia, Towera, Lyndon, Middalya and Emu Creek. The native title holders hold non-exclusive rights and interests in this area.

The Wajarri Yamatji people and the Budina people have celebrated significant native title determinations this week in Western Australia.

The Budina people in Western Australia’s Pilbara have been granted Native Title on just over 4000 square kilometres of land in the Carnarvon, Upper Gascoyne and Ashburton areas.

The Budina community is today celebrating the legal recognition of their land and culture at an on-Country Federal Court hearing at Lyndon Pastoral Station. The event was co-hosted by Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) and Budina Aboriginal Corporation (BAC).
