Work began on sealing the Cape Leveque Road in 2018. The new road will allow residents to travel during wet season and for more tourists to visit the area. A management plan to keep the Dampier Peninsula safe and protected from inappropriate use is being developed but not yet in place.

On 13 August 2010, the Federal Court of Australia recognised the Bardi and Jawi people’s native title rights and interests. The Bardi and Jawi people have both exclusive and non-exclusive rights in different areas of the determination area.
