The Atambaya Native Title Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC acts as a trustee for the native title rights and interests for the Atambaya people.
On 6 October 2022, the Federal Court of Australia recognised the Atambaya People’s native title rights and interests in relation to land in the Cape York region. This, along with other separate judgments, resolved three parts of the greater Cape York United #1 Claim, which concerned a number of complex Court proceedings. In this proceeding, the Court acknoweledged that other than in relation to Water, the Atambaya people have exclusive rights to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment of the area.
In 2023, the Court recognised the Atambaya people’s native title rights and interests in an area to the east and west of the original determination. In relation to this area, the Atambaya people have non-exclusive rights.
