On 2 November 2023, the Federal Court of Australia recognised the Thaypan People’s native title rights and interests in relation to land and waters in the south-east Cape York Peninsula, to the east of the Great Dividing Range. The determination area covers more than 350,000 hectares.

The determination resolved a part of the larger Cape York United #1 claim.

The Thaypan native title group include the Goose and taipan Snake clans.

The native title holders hold, other than in relation to water, the right to possession, occupation, use and enjoyment to the exclusion of all others.
