On 2 November 2023, the Federal Court of Australia recognised the Thaypan People’s native title rights and interests in relation to land and waters in the south-east Cape York Peninsula, to the east of the Great Dividing Range. The determination area covers more than 350,000 hectares.

The determination resolved a part of the larger Cape York United #1 claim. 

The Thaypan native title group include the Goose and taipan Snake clans. 

Bungle Bungles Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC

The Bungle Bungles Aboriginal Corporation hold native title in trust for the Jaru, Kija and Malngin people.

Following disputes over who the right people were for the Purnululu National Park, and some areas surrounding it, on 19 December 2022, Mortimer J recognised the native title holders’ rights and interests in relation to an area including the Purnululu National Park, and areas to the west and southwest of it.
